RFID Tags In General

All RFID tags are used to hold and ultimately remit information. They can best be seen of as the successor to the bar code. However, they have significant advantages over bar codes. For instance: RFID tags can store much more data than bar codes; they can be read from further away and they can actually transmit information, not only store information.

There are three kinds of RFID tags: passive, active and hybrid. Passive RFID tags are the least expensive, because they are less complex. They have to be asked to disclose their information by taking power from an RFID reader. When the reader’s radio waves hit them, they echo back their information. This is the sort of tag used in goods in a retail outlet or on crates in a warehouse.

On the other hand, active RFID tags have a battery, a transmitter and an aerial so that they are always transmitting. These devices are clearly a lot more expensive and so are used only on more costly items such as a container, a battle tank, an aircraft, on criminals ankle bands or on an animal of an endangered species.

The hybrid RFID tag is capable of transmitting, but it has to be told to transmit; it has to be turned on by a signal. This signal could be a satellite flying over head. These hybrid RFID tags are also costly, but the battery lasts longer because they are not ‘always on’. These tags have the same uses as the active tags, but are suitable for use where it is not vital to know where something is every minute of the day: for instance cows in a field or goats on a mountain.

Passive tags can be attached permanently by sewing them into linings or putting them under skin because they do not have their own power source and do not wear out. This is a cause of anxiety to some people who worry about an invasion of their privacy or the erosion of their human rights.

Active and hybrid tags are most often clearly visible so that the batteries can be replaced as and when necessary. If this is going to unlikely to happen, as in the case of wild animals, the tag can have a biodegradable clasp which will break sometime after the probable life of the battery.

Some uses for RFID tags are on season tickets so that the owner can pass through the style more quickly than a customer paying by cash. It has applications in security; most of the ID badges you see pinned to shirts have RFID built into them so that security guards do not have to stop and query everybody.

They can be put into trucks that regularly cross borders so that they do not need to stop for identification. They can be placed in windscreens so that as you pass through a motorway toll station, either your credit card is billed or the charge is added to your company’s monthly statement.

Hospitals utilize them on patients so that they do not misplace anyone or misidentify them. RFID tags are useful in our daily lives but people are concerned about criminals being able to read all this information too easily as well.

Asset Management Techniques

How does one go about taking care of one’s assets – one’s worldly belongings? Well, the majority of people keep their money in the bank, put the jewellery in a strongbox and insure the rest. But insurance is not really taking care of your assets, is it? It is taking care of yourself so that you do not have replace them with your own money.

In the old days, and even now, I presume in some places, you would employ a boy to watch over your sheep or cattle or bring them in at night for fear of big cats, wolves or rustlers. These were an early kind of security guard and indeed rich people had and frequently still do have personal body guards.

What if you had a substantial office with a hundred laptop computers – laptops because people had to do field work too? How would you keep track on all those? A car is another good case in point and construction site machinery is being stolen all the time even from under the watchful gaze of (or with the compliance of) private security companies.

So what can you do? Get dogs? That works usually, but they can be poisoned. Install video cameras and passive infra-red motion sensors connected to a control centre? That works and a lot of businesses and private houses have it, but it is very costly.

As a cheap alternative, the police were giving out free pens in the UK, which wrote in invisible ink. The idea was to put your postcode and house number. This ink became visible under a certain type of light. That is fine if you have a suspect or found goods.

Bar codes are not practical, the pen is better. It all comes back to insurance or security.

However, there is another way that is becoming affordable. The concept has been around for approximately 85 years, but it was too pricey to use on anything less significant than an airplane or a battle tank.

I am talking about radio frequency identification or RFID for short. The concept is the same one that aircraft have been using since during the Second World War – a transponder sends out precoded information in response to a demand from an RF reader.

Details regarding ownership and particulars of what the item is can be written to an RFID chip also called a tag and the tag can then be glued inside the item that it is to protect.

There are two varieties of tag: the passive and the active. Passive tags will only reply if information is requested by a reader, whereas an active tag is always broadcasting.

Many business people use RFID tagging to keep track of their goods. In the instance of livestock, most cattle are tagged nowadays. Most large offices have their IT devices tagged as well and we all know that clothing stores have been tagging clothes for years, although maybe you did not realize what that button was that they were taking off at the till.

Individuals are already tagging their dogs, cats and cars and it will not be long before these asset management routines will be employed extensively at home as well. Insurance companies may insist on it.

Information On The Pheasant

Among the leading bird hunting sports is hunting wild pheasant. In the United States, the common pheasant (Phasianus Colchicus) is a game bird revered by hunters and sometimes referred to as English Pheasant or just plain pheasant.

Pheasants primarily live in wooded locations. Their food intake is made up primarily of earthworms, snails, spiders, millipedes, and grasshoppers. These birds also like to eat on loads of berries and grains out in the wild, particularly blueberries. If they can find sunflowers, they really enjoy them! At night, these gorgeous fowl will roost up in the trees and at daybreak they will peck the ground for some tasty treats.

Pheasants is a term commonly used for quail, partridge, or ruffed grouse. The ring-necked pheasant was introduced in North America in 1857 and has become well established in locations out West such as across the Rocky Mountains, Midwest, and the Plains. They have also populated areas of both Canada and Mexico. Male pheasants often have long black streaked tails and a distinctive white ring around their neck. More colorful than the female, male pheasants will be colored with a variety of green, purple, gold, and brown plumage that is simply stunning. The female, also known as the hen, has a duller brown plumage. The male and female pheasant has two things in common, they both have short rounded wings and very strong and stout beaks with a yellowish appearance. Male pheasants have tails that are over 20 inches long and protective spurs on the back of their legs that takes them from wild animals.

In some locations, pheasant populations have fallen somewhat due to environmental challenges such as land clearing and pollution. If we don’t start now in protecting pheasant populations from the harms of modern society, the good old days of pheasant hunting will be a thing of the past. Fortunately, there are pheasant farms with protected areas for the pheasants to grow their populations unhindered by modern society. However, it is hard to find areas that are not touched by air or chemical pollution. In the United States, pheasants populations have declined due to many factors. Farms allow for better managed populations.

Out west on the Great Plains, you will find that there are an abundance of pheasants in the open fields and around old farm houses. The birds absolutely love to peck around on the grasses for grains and insects in the fields and roost around old homeplaces and farming implements. The United Kingdom has a lot more pheasants than we do here in the United States. In the United States, it is estimated that there are about 10 million pheasants while in the UK there are approximately 35 million.

Males do a strutting movement in the spring of the year to entice a female into courting. Strutting is when a cock puffs his feathers and his head will become bright red and engorged. Males will fight each other to the end for breeding rights with the females.

Male pheasants are known to commonly mate with more than one female and, kind of like Elvis, are often followed that one time by a group of females! This is called polyamorous behavior. When the females lay their eggs they will do it in a nest of about 10 eggs. The incubations period last between 23-26 days between April to June.

Organic Dog Food

The requirement of healthy, organic food seems to apply just as much to pets as to humans, because many animal owners would rather buy organic products to feed man’s best friend. One could be forgiven for being surprised at the large amount of organic dog food on offer in the market. Just like for humans, there are many of pet illnesses that one could cure or even prevent completely by the use of organic pet food.

For instance, organic dog food could lessen the chance of the pet getting skin diseases and allergies. The explanation for the positive health effects is the absence of additives, chemicals, colourants and pesticides. Instead the ingredients in organic dog food are just grain extracts and high quality proteins.

Normal dog food often causes diabetes and excess weight with all the concomitant problems that accompany these illnesses: back ailment, organ failure and decreased mobility. How can organic dog food help here? Well, organic food items for pets do not contain bulk fillers, they are nutrient-packed products that create energy not fat deposits. Moreover, it is best and a lot easier to prevent health issues than to try to cure them afterwards.

A better digestion and a stronger immunity system are the other main benefits that accompany the use of organic pet food. Due to the absence of chemicals usually present in ordinary pet food, your dog will not vomit or experience gas or diarrhea. A more efficient is what you will achieve with a healthy diet. Furthermore, the quality of the nutritional substances in organic dog food, boosts the immunity functions, thereby reducing the risks of infection and all sorts of specific diseases that affect dogs on an everyday basis.

Many veterinarian experts claim that organic dog food significantly increases the life span of any animal, not to mention the fact that it will go through old age a lot better. It is quite common that pet owners who choose organic dog food, are also interested in applying the same health rules to their own diet, sticking to clean natural products that boost bodily functions and avoid toxins and disease.

Ask your local dog food provider about organic dog food and if there is none available in your local shop, try to order it online. There are plenty of web pages that offer such products at pretty decent prices.

One last tip, be very wary of dried dog food, no matter what it says on the packet. I used to have a dog that stayed at home alone during the day, while I went to work. I didn’t like to leave ‘wet’ food, because of flies, bacteria and vermin, so I bought dry food, which would not deteriorate during the day. However, within six years she had diabetes, which meant that I had to inject her with insulin every morning. The veterinary said that it was very common for dogs fed only on biscuits to get diabetes, so check with your vet first or feed organic wet food.

Keeping Your Dog Motivated

Keeping the attention of your dog while training is not always an easy task. Dogs are very easily distracted, and it is important to not allow the dog training sessions to be ruined by boredom. Making dog training fun for the dog and the human alike is essential to creating a happy, well-adjusted and well-trained dog.

Providing random positive stimuli throughout the day is a great way to keep the interest of your dog. Doing things the dog enjoys, like walking in the park, riding in the car, and playing with other dogs, are great ways to keep the dog’s attention, but you must reward him for small successes.

For example, in order to reward the dog for coming to you when you call him, ask the dog to come to you, without giving any clues about a walk, a car ride, or other treats.

After your dog has come over to you and obediently sat down, attach the lead and start the treat. This can be either the before-mentioned walk in the park, ride in the car, or anything else the dog likes to do.

Providing some kind of reward, whether a treat, a special outing, or just a tickle behind the ears, every time the dog does something you want him to, is a great method to maintain your dog’s motivation while you are dog training.

If the dog knows something good is going to happen every time he obeys your commands, he will be more motivated to do want you tell him every time.

Distraction training.

When training any dog, it is vital to not allow distractions spoil the training. The dog must be taught to ignore distractions, such as other people, other dogs, other animals and loud noises, and focus on what is being taught These kinds of distractions can even be used as rewards when training your dog to come when told.

For instance, if your dog enjoys playing with other dogs, whether in a local dog park or with the neighbour’s dogs, let him play freely with those other dogs. Then go into the park or garden and call your dog.

When he comes to you, provide lots of praise, treats and other rewards, then immediately let the dog to return to playing with his friends. Do this several times and praise the dog each time he comes over to you.

The dog will quickly learn that coming to you means good things (treats and praise) and not bad ones (being taken away from the park).

This so-called distraction training is one of the most difficult things for your dog to learn, because dogs are naturally social animals, and breaking away from the pack is one of the most difficult things you can ask your dog to do. Most dogs will be understandably reluctant to leave their canine companions, but it is vital to persist in dog training.

Training the dog to come to you may require some creativity on your part at first. For instance, waving a favourite toy, or a lure, is a good way to get your dog’s attention and put the focus back on you. If your dog has been clicker trained, a quick click can be a good motivator too when you are training your dog.

Once the dog begins to get used to coming when called, you can start to reduce and eliminate the visual cues and focus on getting the dog to respond to your voice alone. It is important that the dog obeys voice commands alone, since you will not always have the availability of a toy or other lure.

What’s In A Dog’s Name?

Dog owners will explain that there is no proven method for selecting a good name for a new dog or puppy. Whether they need to come up with girl or boy dog names, they will normally pick a name that sounds cool or a name they like rather than putting some thought into what the name actually means. Popular boy dog names have meanings, as do human names, so more often than not the meaning will not suit the dog it is given to. Here we give a list of the top five boy dog names and what they actually mean.

In general, one of the first things you have to do when you get a new dog or puppy is think up a dog name for him or her. For most dog owners, this actually takes little thought. They just pick a dog name at random and that is the name by which the unfortunate hound will be known forever. However, there is something you ought to think about when going through dog names in order to make sure that you choose a suitable one.

First of all, dogs sense attitude and tone of voice better than humans are able to. If you pick a dog name for comic value or after someone you don’t like, your dog will know by your tone of voice that something is wrong. The result could well be that, their attitude may change towards you or they may refuse to respond to your commands. Dogs’ names should mean something but should not be detrimental to their mental development, so you ought to take your dog’s name seriously.

Despite dogs being very clever creatures, they can’t process the same amount of information that we can. As a result, dog names should never be more than two syllables long. If they are more than that, most dogs will not respond. Max, Sam, Becky, Lady, Molly and the like are excellent dog names because they are short and the syllables are easily heard. They respond to these dog names and that will improve your chances of training them successfully.

However, dogs’ names should help them form an identity of their own. Common names don’t really allow them to do that, so finding something simple but unusual can help their characters a great deal without damaging their ability to respond to a command.

Max: This is perhaps the greatest boy dog name and the meaning is surely why most people choose it for their pooch. It literally means “the greatest”. After all, every dog owner thinks that their dog is the greatest.

Jake: Jake is short for Jacob, which means “victor”. This is an apt boy dog name, if your puppy has taken over the house within moments of setting feet inside of it!

Buddy: Buddy is a variation of Budd, which means “messenger”. This boy dog name would be apt for a farm dog or one you might train to bring in the newspaper of a morning. It is quite a popular boy dog name and can be very widely heard throughout America.

Bailey: The boy dog name Bailey is French and means “steward”. This is fairly apt if your dog is responsible and sensible, so it is probably not suitable for a Jack Russel puppy, for example!

Sam: Sam apparently means “an answer to prayers”. This is a good name for dogs that are obedient, easy to train and are largely quiet!

Not many people consider a name’s meaning when choosing boy dog names, so instead of just going with your first thought, it would be worth taking the time to choose a dog’s name that is actually suitable for your dog. After all, it doesn’t cost anything to spend some time thinking about your dog’s name.

Dogs’ Heart Worm, Fleas And other Parasites

You have to get rid of heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs whenever they raise their ugly heads by using the appropriate treatment on them. Many products are available to defend dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites such as hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc.

Of the heart worms, fleas and other parasites, fleas can produce a hyper sensitive reaction in the infected animal. Animals infected with fleas scratch their bodies very vigorously. Frequently the scratching is so bad that the skin becomes super-sensitive and dermatitis is the result in the scratched areas.

The result of a serious flea infestation is often that your dog can not lie down for long or sleep properly due to the persistent flea bites. So, the animal looks as if has some severe skin issues. If the the animal is not properly treated for these flea bites, there could be a secondary bacterial attack in these areas and there may even be a rotten smell emanating from the affected area of your dog’s skin.

You ought to observe your dog closely in order prevent a serious infestation. It is essential to avoid such a serious infestation as they are extremely distressing to your pet. Similarly, the skin of the animal needs to be inspected regularly for the presence of ticks and lice. In order to do this effectively, you must look at the dog’s skin by separating the dog’s hairs. The easiest way to do this is by slowly back-combing or ruffling the pet’s hair.

Often, if your pet is anaemic, and he is not infested with fleas, you need to check for hookworm. Symptoms of hookworm are anaemia, loose stools and a pot belly. The dog’s owner may recognize these symptoms themselves, however, to be honest, the dog needs to undergo a routine health check at the vet’s involving faecal and hematological examinations.

There are many commercial products available on the market, some of which are effective for dealing with all these conditions in a single dose. Drugs like ivermectin are highly efficacious and are available in injection, oral and solution forms. The latter should be applied directly on the dog’s skin. These drugs can lead to the prevention of these conditions too.

So, the best policy to adopt is to keep a keen watch on your dog. This can very easily be carried out at bath time and when you are brushing him. You can use an anti-flea and anti-tick shampoo, which will keep these nuisances at bay, if used regularly. Couple this with frequent grooming with a lice comb and the use of a flea collar should keep your pet flea, lice, and tick free.

The Reasons Why Dogs Snore

We all know that it is not unusual for pet owners to permit their pets to sleep with them on their beds at night. In deed, one third of pet owners have at some point, permitted their pets to sleep on their beds. Dogs readily provide a companionship that can’t be shown by any other breed of animal. However, this doesn’t mean to say that cat owners do not let their cats or another pets sleep with them too.

It is facilitated too by dogs having a sleep pattern which is rather similar to our own. Dogs usually have complete trust in their owners, which makes them a lot more relaxed during the night. This goes a long way to explaining why most dogs fall asleep easily and even go into a deep sleep where REM sleep activities can occur. In fact, once a dog goes into this stage, the owner often needs to call them several times before they can be woken up completely.

Certainly, many of us have witnessed a dog paddling during sleep and barking while asleep too. These dogs are said to be dreaming. Breathing patterns can also be observed among dogs while they are asleep. For instance, there are breeds which breathe heavily and there are breeds which breathe more lightly. The dogs that are heavy breathers are much more likely to snore than those which do not breathe quite as heavily.

Some people find that dogs that snore are rather a nuisance during the night, depending on the degree and frequency of the phenomenon. Like with humans, there are various considerations why dogs snore, although most have to do with the blocking of the passage of air in the windpipe, which in turn is caused by the collapse of certain areas along the throat. It is the same problem as with human beings.

A dog that snores very loudly should be examined for different issues to see which treatment could be best provided. Some dogs are especially susceptible to some allergies that can cause constriction in the airway. It may also be that there is some excess tissue in the areas that are inhibiting proper breathing. It is best for a veterinarian to check out various factors through careful evaluation of the dog’s anatomical features and physical symptoms in general.

Is you dog obese? I ask this because, as with humans, obese dogs are more likely to snore than thin ones. This is because they have more tissue surrounding their throats. Therefore, they have excess tissue hanging around the throat which can potentially cause obstructions. Once this problem is corrected, the risk of snoring will be decreased. This would not only be healthy for your dogs, you may eventually enjoy a decent night’s sleep too.

The general facial features of the dog affect the amount of snoring too. Some dogs seem to have pushed-in faces which narrows their air passages to a greater or lesser degree. The construction of their nasal passages also largely contributes to their problems of breathing. They are pretty much like humans with the flu, who are forced to breathe using only twenty-five percent of their nostril capacity. Dog breeds with shorter faces need to expend lots of effort to breathe properly. It takes them more effort to breathe and they are also more prone to snoring.

Minor surgery can give your dog great relief. Be sure though that before any decision is made, you are well informed about the potential risks and consequences of surgery to stop a dog snoring. Most are irreversible, so careful thought must be given to any operation you allow. In fact it is best to follow the guidelines provided by your veterinarian.

Is She A Lady Or A Tramp?

So you may ask, what is in a dog’s name? Just what does it matter what your female dog’s name is? The answer is a fair bit, because your bitch’s name defines him or her in the eyes of your friends, especially if you have a small dog. What small dogs lack in stature they can make up for in attitude. For small dogs, being cute will get them everywhere. But what is a cute dog without a cute dog name?

Cute dog names are usually meant for female dogs or bitches. Abby, for example is a very cute dog name. When you match with a mental image, you probably see a little Westie or a Labrador pup romping around on a lawn in your mind’s eye. Other cute female dog names are Queenie, Beauty, Becky and Blackie. All of these cute dog names seem to embody a bundle of fur that has a sweet nature and just loves cuddles. They all allude to a pretty appearance and a very joyful dog owning experience.

However, there appears to be very few cute dog names available for male dogs. This could be because it reduces the masculine image that male dogs should have. Still, there are some male cute dog names about. Bobby, Casper, Patch and Spot are all cute male dog names that have the same effect as the female ones do. However, you do have to make sure that you have the right kind of male dog to give a cute dog name to, because if you get it wrong, he will sound ridiculous.

Cute dog names can be suitable for male and female members alike of certain breeds and can help to develop a lovable personality, because of the affection, with which it will be treated. But do be warned, you do not want to leave your dog open to ridicule so choose when to give cute dog names very carefully.

Whilst dogs are very intelligent animals, they cannot process the same quantity of information that we can. Therefore, dog names should never be more than two syllables. If they are more than that, it is seldom that a dog will respond. Max, Sam, Lady, Molly and the like are excellent dog names because they are short and the syllables are hard. They easily respond to dog names like those and it can improve your chances of training them.

However, dogs names can help them shape an identity of their own. Common names do not allow them to do that, so finding something simple but unusual can help their characters no end without damaging their ability to respond on command.

I am quite willing to bet money that most dog owners do not think of the factors outlined above when thinking of dog names for a new pet. Instead, dog names are chosen at random, but it is worth putting a bit more thought into it, for your dogs sake if nothing else.
