Decorating A Wedding Cake

Nearly every family or social occasion involves the consumption of food and the imbibing or drinks in the celebration. Consider Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. In this article, I would like to talk about that centre piece of the wedding reception: the wedding cake.

The guests come to eat, drink and be merry and the bride’s parents always put a great deal of effort into the preparation for the wedding party. The wedding cake is the central point of the top table and the whole function in general. The wedding cake has traditional significance and it is often thought bad luck not to have a piece of the wedding cake.

There are precise rules for the timing of the cutting of the wedding cake that have become part of tradition. For instance, if the wedding reception takes place at lunch or dinner, it is traditional to cut the wedding cake just before the sweet is served.

However, if the reception is held in the late afternoon or early evening, the cake is served as soon as the guests arrive. In some traditions the bride and groom cut and eat the first slice together as a symbol of their vows to love, honour and obey each other. The rest of the cake is usually cut by one of the assistants, like the maid of honour or a family member.

It can be quite difficult to choose the wedding cake. Traditionally, people go for a white cake with white icing for weddings, however nowadays, people are becoming more daring and are choosing more exotic flavours and colours.

Some people choose to have a wedding cake which has different flavours on each layer. While white icing is still the overwhelming favourite, people do order other colours like pink and yellow. Chocolate and mocha are also popular. These days you can have what you like. It is your day, after all.

Everyone enjoys the wedding reception. It is the favourite part of the wedding ceremony and everyone looks forward to seeing the cake cut and sharing it with the bride and groom.

If you are considering becoming a cake decorator, you have a few choices to go about it. You could buy a book or a course or get a video in order to teach yourself how to decorate cakes from the plain to the ornate. You could also go to a night school class to learn the art or cake decoration.

Without a doubt, the very best way to learn cake decorating is to take a course. DVD’s, videos, and books are all well and good, but you cannot talk to them or ask questions. If you take a class for three months or more you will learn more and get a deeper understanding of the art of cake decoration. You will learn how to put real feeling into the decoration of the cake and you will be able to translate the wedding couple’s dreams into a cake that you and they can be proud of.

Ideas for Painting Walls

Here you are then, standing in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though since the vendor was in a rush to sell and had been in the middle of renovating. Still, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the ideal chance to do your new house up exactly the way you want it.

However, now you need to decide where everything should go and which colours would suit which rooms, but you don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly look through your new keys and wander through your new house. The minute you step in through a door ideas hit you. That huge urn you bought a year ago would look fantastic in the corner, and you’re pretty sure that your existing sofa set will fit in this other room. And you know the antique mirror table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really get hung up on though are wall painting ideas.

You certainly don’t want to simply dab on a few coats of bland paint and have done with it. What you want is something special! Something that you can look on with pride every time you see it and, naturally, you want to be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for quite some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too over the top.

But where can you get decent wall painting ideas from, and how do you go about getting the wall painting actually done? There are a few ways to go about this, the easiest of which being if you have an artistic flair, so that you could get your wall painting ideas off the cuff, so to speak and paint the walls as you like. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very artistic and we are loathe to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this case then, you will need some assistance.

You could begin by hiring a professional decorator to help you to decide what would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty good ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these options is viable for you though, you might just try going down to your local hardware store with fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and seek their help on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You might come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last suggestion, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my ‘personalized’ house, because it reflects who I am just perfectly.

The Birthday Barbecue Party

A lot of people over the age of twenty have a sort of love-hate relationship with birthdays. They love to have a party and be the centre of attention and a lot of fun, but they hate getting older. But I believe that people should celebrate their birthdays. After all, you enjoy going to someone else’s birthday party and so you are morally obliged to put one on for others too.

And birthday parties ought to be a load of fun. It does not have to be a children’s type party, of course, but you could still get dressed up and play games.

You could have a barbecue for all your friends and family and do it cowboy style. Have a barn dance that would make ‘JR’ proud. The food for this is straightforward enough. Start by providing plenty of Texas sized spare ribs, half-pounder hamburgers, T-bone steaks, and jumbo size hot dogs with loads of bread and salad.

For music, it has to be country and everybody has to wear cowboy clothing, although it would probably be better to leave the shootin’ irons at home. Annie Oakley style clothes for the ladies and Buffalo Bill style for the gents. If it is going to be a big party, ask everyone to bring their own favourite dish, in true Southern style. That would be a great way to celebrate an adult’s birthday for the family.

If you do not go much on the macho cowboy idea, you could try a Caribbean style barbecue. Dress in flash short sleeved shirts and vivid colours or swimming costumes. The music could be reggae and calypso and the food would be grilled fish and chicken with salad and plenty of fresh fruit. Provide hot and not so hot chilli dips and barbecue sauces. You could have a go at limbo dancing too, that is always good for a laugh.

Or maybe you would prefer a humorous barbecue party and all dress up like the hillbilly family ‘The Clamperts’! That would be fun. The men could wear old velvet hats and old clothes tied up with string like Jed and Jethro and the women could come as Ellie May or Granny. I think that the original food like possum and bullfrog might be difficult to get hold of in some areas, but you could just provide what you want for this one. Steaks, hamburgers and fried fish; bread and salad with cake to finish.

Another favourite type of barbecue for a birthday do is the Luau. An Hawaiian barbecue is really something else. You will need bright colours and plenty of tropical Hawaiian decorations. You could supply half coconut shells for drinking out of and lots of coconut and pineapple based drinks. You should ask your guests to wear loud Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts, provide plenty of leis and hula music and a ‘loudest Hawaiian shirt’ contest is compulsory.

If none of those takes your fancy, how about a ‘Vicars and Tarts’ barbecue? You can use your own imagination on that one though. More tea and crumpet, vicar?

If your barbecue party is to last into the evening and it might get nippy, you could hire or borrow some patio heaters, just so as to give you a few additional hours in the garden.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with the electric outdoor heater. If you are interested in patio heaters too, please click through to Residential Patio Heaters.

Training For a Career in CompTIA A Plus Revealed

There are four specialist areas of training in a full CompTIA A+ program; you’re seen as competent at A+ when you’ve gained exams for two of the four areas. Because of this, most colleges only have two of the courses on their syllabus. In reality it’s necessary to have the training for all four areas as industry will be looking for an understanding of each specialist area. You don’t have to complete all 4 certifications, however we’d advise that you study for all four areas.

Passing the A+ exam in isolation will set you up to mend and maintain computers and Macs; ones which are usually not part of a network – essentially the domestic or small business sector.

If your ambition is being responsible for networks of computers, add the very comprehensive CompTIA Network+ to your A+ course. This qualification will mean you can apply for more interesting jobs. Other ones that might be interesting to you are the route to networking via Microsoft, in the form of MCP’s, MCSA or the full MCSE.

Think about the points below very carefully if you believe that old marketing ploy of an ‘Exam Guarantee’ sounds great value:

Everyone knows they’re still being charged for it – it’s quite obvious to see that it’s been added into the overall price charged by the course provider. It’s certainly not free (although some people will believe anything the marketing companies think up these days!)

We all want to pass first time. Progressively working through your exams one at a time and paying for them just before taking them makes it far more likely you’ll pass first time – you take it seriously and are mindful of the investment you’ve made.

Does it really add up to pay the training college early for exam fees? Find the best deal you can when you take the exam, rather than pay marked up fees – and sit exams more locally – rather than in some remote place.

Is there a good reason to pay interest on a bigger loan than is necessary because you’ve paid early for examinations when you didn’t need to? A great deal of money is made by companies charging upfront for all their exams – and then cashing in when they’re not all taken.

In addition to this, ‘Exam Guarantees’ often aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. The majority of companies will not pay again for an exam until you’ve completely satisfied them that you’re ready this time.

Exams taken at VUE and Prometric centres are approximately 112 pounds in Britain at the time of writing. Why spend so much more on ‘Exam Guarantee’ costs (usually wrapped up in the course package price) – when good quality study materials, the proper support and commitment, effort and practice with quality exam preparation systems are the factors that really get you through.

A question; why might we choose commercial certification instead of traditional academic qualifications obtained from schools, colleges or universities?

Industry now recognises that to cover the necessary commercial skill-sets, official accreditation from the likes of Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe is far more effective and specialised – for much less time and money.

They do this through concentrating on the particular skills that are needed (along with a relevant amount of related knowledge,) instead of covering masses of the background non-specific minutiae that computer Science Degrees are prone to get tied up in (because the syllabus is so wide).

What if you were an employer – and you required somebody who had very specific skills. What is easier: Pore through a mass of different academic qualifications from graduate applicants, asking for course details and which workplace skills they have, or choose a specific set of accreditations that precisely match your needs, and draw up from that who you want to speak to. Your interviews are then about personal suitability – rather than on the depth of their technical knowledge.

Some training providers offer a Job Placement Assistance program, designed to steer you into your first job. Often, this feature is bigged up too much, as it’s really not that difficult for a well trained and motivated person to secure a job in the IT industry – as employers are keen to find appropriately qualified personnel.

Help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews is sometimes offered (if not, see one of our sites for help). Make sure you update that dusty old CV straight away – not when you’re ready to start work!

You might not even have taken your exams when you will be offered your first junior support job; yet this isn’t going to happen unless your CV is with employers.

If you’d like to get employment in your home town, then it’s quite likely that a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service could serve you better than a national service, for they are much more inclined to be familiar with what’s available near you.

Not inconsiderable numbers of people, it would appear, are prepared to study their hearts out (sometimes for years), only to give up at the first hurdle when attempting to secure their first job. Sell yourself… Work hard to get yourself known. Don’t think a job’s just going to jump out in front of you.

Doing your bit in revolutionary new technology is as thrilling as it comes. You become one of a team of people creating a future for us all.

Computing technology and dialogue through the internet will noticeably change our lives in the future; remarkably so.

Let’s not ignore salaries moreover – the typical remuneration throughout Britain for a typical IT employee is noticeably greater than in the rest of the economy. It’s a good bet you’ll bring in quite a bit more than you’d expect to earn doing other work.

The requirement for appropriately qualified IT professionals is a fact of life for many years to come, due to the continuous development in IT dependency in commerce and the massive skills gap that remains.

Wireless Speakers In Home Theaters

Wireless speakers are not the height of technology that they were not so long ago, but they are still pretty new. The good news is though that the price of good quality wireless speakers has come down to an affordable level for most people. However, the constant march of technology continues and it is almost impossible to be on the forefront of it for more than six months before something new comes out.

So, I have come to a conscious decision not to be on the forefront of technology any more. Twelve months behind is good enough for me these days. It can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars to make that decision. I am sure that you are already aware how much items like computers, especially laptops, and plasma TV screens have come down in recent times.

So, now is the time to get into wireless speakers. They are a good idea in any circumstances, because you can move speakers around without needing extension leads, but they are particularly useful in a home theater because people will not be able to trip over the wires in the dark.

Wireless speakers have come down in price because there are more manufacturers making them, which is the normal reason why this occurs. Many of the newer manufacturers are in the Far East, which is also nothing new, but the quality is just as good. They are just cheaper.

Wireless speakers are one of the first up-grades you should think about if your system is a couple of years old. Wireless speakers allow so much more freedom to move your speakers around to get the best sound out of your home theater set-up.

One tip if you want to try to save a bit on your purchase of wireless speakers is to buy online. But, do not rush into it. First of all do the round of the shopping malls and find out which wireless speaker systems you like. Take a note of three brands or models. Then go online and check the prices for these models.

You should note down the models, the online prices and the URL of the store where you saw them online. Then, go back to the stores where you first saw those models and ask if they are willing to equal, or better, the price. If they are willing to price match, all well and good. You have won because, if there is a problem you can return them locally. If they will not, you must weigh up the value of a local purchase to you.

You can easily end up with a top quality home theater system with wireless speakers by going about buying your up-grades in this way. You really ought to go the way of wireless speakers and if you do not believe me, just walk around the shopping mall one Saturday afternoon, you will soon be persuaded.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with wireless home theater systems. If you are interested in a Home Movie Theatre, please click through to our site now.

Garden Patio Deck Layout

After you have finished buying in your garden patio furniture and you have set it out as you like, it is time to park yourself in one of your new patio chairs with one of your favourite drinks and maybe a pen and paper, and take stock of the situation.

Is your garden patio a little congested or do you have loads of room? Are there other things you would like to have out there? How about plants? Do you have enough plants and bushes – eye candy? Will you be using it only in the daytime or in the evening or even at night too? Will you need lighting, for instance?

This is where your own personal flair can be added to your shop bought furniture to make the patio truly your patio. So, if you live in a house that only has a small garden, you might want to think about things that hang rather than things that must be sited on the ground, which will take up walking space.

If you do not have much room, but you want to grow plants with edible fruit such as strawberries or tomatoes, you could get some hanging baskets. You can hang them from bushes or standard lamps or fix them to a boring wall. In the same way, you could grow herbs or other small plants in a window box which has been fixed to a wall or placed on top of it. Or put shelving up and put boxes and pots on that.

If your patio is too sunny, you could grow sunflowers or put up a trellis or an arbour and grow vines or clematis up it. Bamboo grows quickly too. If it is too shaded, plant plenty of bright yellow and white flowers and maybe paint the walls white or pink, if you are not keen on glare.

If your garden patio is a much larger, you could add garden accessories in order to further your enjoyment. For instance, you could construct a barbecue area out of stone slabs or bricks. You could add a fountain too. A fountain makes the very soothing sound of running and splashing water and fish are a delight to watch.

For the colder months, you could construct a fireplace, if local bylaws permit or get a patio heater. They are very efficient and can keep a fair radius warm, depending on the ambient temperature.

You will probably need some form of lighting too, if you reckon on spending some evenings on your patio. I suggest a few spotlights to highlight your favourite flowers and the fountain and a broader beam light that you can read by. Do not put these lights near where you intend to sit because they will be a magnet for flying insects. However, they make a good distraction from you and will keep all but the blood sucking insects away.

For parasites such as mosquitoes, you should get some form of mosquito light. Some are very good and promise to keep a quarter or even half an acre clear of mosquitoes and other such pests.

For all these extra accessories you will need power points. Therefore, if you plan your garden with pen and paper as I suggested at the beginning of this article, then you will be able to show the electrician where you want the points and what-not in your new garden patio layout.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with commercial patio heaters. If you are interested in patio heaters too, please click through to Residential Patio Heaters.

Training In MCSA Networking In Detail

The Microsoft MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) course is a recognised route for men and women looking to get into supporting networks. Whether you want to get started in the industry or already have experience but need to improve your CV with certification, you’ll find the correct training for you.

Find a training provider that’s eager to understand you, and can help you work out the best route for you, even before they start thinking about the course contents. Experts will also be in a position to tell you where to begin dependent on your present knowledge or lack of it.

We’d all like to believe that our careers are secure and our future is protected, however, the truth for the majority of jobs throughout the UK at the moment is that security just isn’t there anymore.

In times of growing skills shortfalls mixed with areas of high demand of course, we generally locate a newly emerging type of market-security; driven by a continual growth, businesses are struggling to hire the staff required.

Taking a look at the Information Technology (IT) market, the recent e-Skills survey highlighted a more than 26 percent skills deficit. To put it another way, this highlights that the country is only able to source three properly accredited workers for each 4 job positions that are available at the moment.

Achieving the appropriate commercial computer certification is consequently a quick route to realise a long-term as well as worthwhile career.

Quite simply, acquiring professional IT skills as you progress through the next few years is probably the safest career choice you could ever make.

Sometimes, people don’t comprehend what information technology can do for us. It is stimulating, innovative, and means you’re a part of the huge progress of technology that will affect us all over the next generation.

Society largely thinks that the technological advancement that’s been a familiar part of our recent lives is cooling down. There is no truth in this at all. Massive changes are on the horizon, and the internet significantly will be the most effective tool in our lives.

If money is up there on your wish list, then you will welcome the news that the regular income of IT employees in general is considerably higher than salaries in much of the rest of industry.

Because the IT market sector is still developing year on year, it’s looking good that demand for appropriately qualified IT professionals will flourish for quite some time to come.

With so much choice, there’s no surprise that nearly all students balk at what job they should even pursue.

What chances do most of us have of understanding the tasks faced daily in an IT career when it’s an alien environment to us? We normally have never met anyone who performs the role either.

Contemplation on these points is important if you want to expose the right solution that will work for you:

* Our personalities play an important part – what things get your juices flowing, and what are the areas that put a frown on your face.

* What time-frame are you looking at for the training process?

* Where is the salary on a scale of importance – is an increase your main motivator, or is day-to-day enjoyment a little higher on your priority-list?

* Often, trainees don’t consider the work demanded to get fully certified.

* Taking a serious look into the effort, commitment and time that you’re going to put into it.

In these situations, it’s obvious that the only real way to research these areas will be via a meeting with an experienced advisor who understands Information Technology (as well as the commercial needs.)

Always expect an authorised exam preparation system included in your course.

Because a lot of examining boards for IT are from the USA, you need to become familiar with their phraseology. It’s no use simply understanding random questions – it’s essential that you can cope with them in the proper exam format.

For many reasons, it is vital to be confident that you’ve thoroughly prepared for your commercial exam before embarking on it. Revising simulated tests logs the information in your brain and will avoid you getting frustrated with unsuccessful attempts at exams.

CompTIA A Plus Careers Training – Options

Computer training for CompTIA A+ has four specialist sections – you’ll need exam certification in 2 specialities to be seen as competent in A+. You’ll find that most training providers restrict their A+ to just two of the 4 sectors. To us, this will under prepare you – sure, you can pass an exam, but knowing about the others will set you apart in your working life, where knowledge of all four will be necessary. This is why you need education in the whole course.

Once you start your A+ computer training course you will develop an understanding of how to work in antistatic conditions and build and fix computers. Fault finding and diagnostic techniques through hands on and remote access are also covered.

It could be a good idea to consider adding Network+ training to your A+ as you’ll then be in a position to take care of computer networks, which means greater employment benefits.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, involving piles of reference textbooks, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If this sounds like you, dig around for more practical courses which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts.

Memory is vastly improved when we use multiple senses – this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for decades now.

You can now study via easy-to-use DVD or CD ROM’s. Instructor-led tutorials will mean you’ll learn your subject through the expert demonstrations. Then you test your knowledge by using practice-lab’s.

All companies should be able to show you samples of their training materials. Expect video tutorials, instructor led classes and interactive areas to practice in.

Avoiding training that is delivered purely online is generally a good idea. Always choose CD or DVD based study materials where possible, so that you have access at all times – it’s not wise to be held hostage to your internet connection always being ‘up’ and available.

An area that’s often missed by new students weighing up a particular programme is ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is the breakdown of the materials to be delivered to you, which vastly changes how you end up.

You may think it logical (with most training taking 1-3 years to gain full certified status,) for your typical trainer to courier the courseware in stages, as you complete each part. However:

How would they react if you didn’t complete all the exams within the time limits imposed? Sometimes their preference of study order doesn’t work as well as some other order of studying might.

To be in the best situation you would have every piece of your study pack posted to your address right at the beginning; the entire thing! This way, nothing can happen down the line which could affect your progress.

It only makes sense to consider study programs which will move onto industry acknowledged certifications. There’s an endless list of minor schools suggesting ‘in-house’ certificates which are worthless in today’s commercial market.

To an employer, only the major heavyweights like Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco or Adobe (for instance) really carry any commercial clout. Anything less won’t make the grade.

One useful service that many training companies provide is a Job Placement Assistance program. The service is put in place to assist your search for your first position. Because of the great need for more IT skills in Britain today, it’s not necessary to become overly impressed with this service however. It’s actually not as hard as some people make out to find a job once you’re well trained and qualified.

One important thing though, don’t wait till you have completed your exams before getting your CV updated. As soon as you start studying, enter details of your study programme and tell people about it!

It’s not uncommon to find that junior support jobs have been bagged by people who’re still on their course and have yet to take their exams. This will at the very least get you on your way.

Most often, a specialist locally based employment service (who will get paid commission to place you) will perform better than any division of a training company. It also stands to reason that they’ll know the local area and commercial needs.

A big aggravation for various training providers is how much trainees are focused on studying to pass exams, but how un-prepared they are to work on getting the job they have trained for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.
